Team building ideas for your IT (and, frankly, any other) department
How to create trust and understanding in a remote team? Well, that’s the question that every HR manager dealing with IT teams has to face. We’ve come up with 7 ideas of activities that can add a sense of unity to your company.

Online chats
Small talks largely contribute to the formation of the corporate culture. It helps the employees to interacts not only as colleagues but also as real humans who make plans and opinions and sometimes wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Substitute water cooler talks with regular recreational meetings online. The possibilities are endless: coffee breaks, group meditations, Friday pizza, etc.

Clubs and workshops
Closer ties are created by common interests, so provide your workers some. Organize a reading or a movie club, invite teachers for language classes and experts in various areas – from gardening to nutrition. In case you use an L&D, schedule weekly meetings for the employees to be able to share their thoughts on the courses they take. Or use Moento – we’ve added the comment section under each material to introduce the discussion and increase the engagement.

Get-to-know-each other games
As an HR manager, you surely are acquainted with all of the company’s employees. But what about the hires themselves? In a good-case scenario, they only know you and their boss. Meanwhile, the work chats are full of unknown people which a person doesn’t know either how to address, or what to expect from. Therefore, it’s a good idea to organize calls during that your old employees can have fun and new ones will get a chance to find out who is who.

Team quizzes
Build a list of questions on some general topic (culture, science, history, etc.) or make a quiz about your company’s goals, values, and structure. Then invite your colleagues to compete in answering them. Simple, straightforward – yet never fails to cheer up.

Business games
«All work and no play» is never an efficient strategy in the long run. That’s why we suggest you add a game to the agenda. If you’re a legal firm, organize a moot court imitating a famous case. If sales are what your enterprise does, then choose random pictures from Google and make your employees pitch a coherent presentation based on these «slides». Free your imagination and think of something that will suit you and your colleagues.

Online games
From well-known classics to special team building arcades, online gaming is a good tool to help your workers communicate outside of task managers. In case you don’t know where to start, here’s an online version of a world-famous board game/investments trainer: https://www.richdad.com/

Offline events
Unfortunately, human contact is irreplaceable. And even though we all enjoy not being stuck in traffic every morning and home-made lunches, it’s good to actually meet your co-workers every now and then. Rent an office. Throw parties. Organize corporate vacations. Participate in conferences and expos to let your employees meet each other in real life.
